The Indigenous Reserve of Huellas Caloto

The municipality of Caloto is an interethnic municipality located in the north of the Department of Cauca, where indigenous peoples, afro-Colombian communities and campesino communities coexist. The relationship between these communities is not always peaceful. Tensions often arise in relation to land conflicts, but there is also a thirst for constructive dialogue.

The Indigenous Reserve of Huellas Caloto belongs to the Nasa indigenous people. It borders two other indigenous reserves, all within the municipality of Caloto.

It is also one of the municipalities and territories most affected by the armed conflict and violence. Several state and non-state armed groups are present in the area. These groups disrupt the harmony and balance of the territory and the families who inhabit this territory.

In the Indigenous Reserve of Huellas Caloto, the indigenous authorities exercise self-government and territorial control through the Indigenous Guards. Made up of men, women, and children, the Indigenous Guards exercise territorial control of the Reserve in defense of the rights of the indigenous communities and preserve the Unity, Land, Culture and Autonomy of the Nasa people.
